Here are a couple of my favourite movies. I watched the movies quite a lot when I was studying at University and was feeling a bit worried before exams, or had a big assignment, as the movies are kind and can help you to feel assured. The movies include the Princess Diaries (2001), directed by Garry Marshall and starring Dame Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway, Pretty Woman (1990), also directed by Garry Marshall and starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts and Paris (2008), directed by Cédric Klapisch and starring Romain Duris, Juliette Binoche and Mélanie Laurent.
The Princess Diaries is based on the book by Meg Cabot, and is about a shy teenager from San Fransisco called Mia (played by Anne Hathaway) who finds out she is a Princess and heir to the throne of Genovia, a European country. Mia’s Grandmother, Queen Clarisse, is played by Dame Julie Andrews, and Anne Hathaway and Dame Julie Andrews are two of my favourite actresses. I love the Princess Diaries movie so much and the movie could be about family, friendship and being brave enough to be who you truly are 🌸 there are a lot of beautiful outfits and the movie is so kind and beautifully shot.
‘No one can make you feel inferior without your consent,’ a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt noted in the Princess Diaries (2001)
Pretty Woman is about a beautiful young woman called Vivian, played by Julia Roberts, who is a hooker and is picked up by Edward, a wealthy businessman played by Richard Gere, at the beginning of the movie. The two characters are an unlikely couple and fall in love, though the characters are from quite different backgrounds and there are a couple of challenges during the movie the characters overcome ok. There are also a lot of beautiful outfits in the movie, including the red dress and necklace Vivian wears to the Opera with Edward, and the movie is very kind and uplifting.
In Paris (2008), a young dancer called Pierre, played by Romain Duris, falls very sick with a heart condition in the beginning of the movie. He is helped by his sister Élise, a mum and social worker, and the movie also follows the day to day life and experiences of a group of quite different (and interconnected) people who are living in Paris, including a University student played by Mélanie Laurent. I enjoyed learning about the different characters and the movie includes a lot of beautiful scenery from around the city of Paris. The movie could be about love, family, friendship and how life is so beautiful, though could also be fragile 🌸
Do you love some of the movies too, or are there any different movies which are your favourite?
