Here is a recipe for a warm lemon, honey and fresh ginger drink my Mum used to make when we were little and had a cold 🍯 I often make the lemon and honey drink when the weather is cooler in the autumn and winter or if I have a cold, as the lemons in the drink are full of vitamin C and the honey helps to soothe a sore throat.
The lemon and honey drink is also good to make if you feel like a fresh drink with natural ingredients and flavours, or if you really enjoy lemons, honey or ginger. The recipe has just a few ingredients and is quite easy to make, and could be helpful for using up spare lemons or limes too in case you have a lemon or lime tree in your garden.
A lemon and honey drink recipe
- Juice of 1 or 2 lemons (you could also use limes if you enjoy limes a lot too)
- 1 generous tablespoon of honey
- 1 or 2 teaspoons of freshly grated ginger
- 2 or 3 tablespoons of cold water
- Boiling water
Combine the lemon (or lime) juice, honey, fresh ginger and cold water into a mug and fill up with freshly boiling water.
Lemons: as noted in the book 100 Best Health Foods, there are valuable nutrients and antioxidants in all parts of a lemon, and lemons are an especially good source of vitamin C. Further, warming a lemon in hot water for a couple of seconds will help you to be able to get more juice out of the lemon when juicing.
Ginger: as noted in the book 100 Best Health Foods, the plant compounds in fresh ginger are anti-inflammatory, can help to calm nausea and aid digestion, and contain powerful cancer-destroying action. Further, fresh ginger contains the highest levels of beneficial compounds, and can be stored in the refrigerator.
Honey: as noted by organicfacts.net, honey has a number of health benefits because honey is a healthy sweetener which is rich in vitamins and minerals (including vitamin C and calcium), has antiseptic and antioxidant properties, is noted to be helpful for skincare, and also helps to hasten the healing process of wounds.
